the sveltecast is finally here! (aka it’s podcast time, people)

, , ,

the saucy svelte oneFor a few years I’ve had a little distribution network for my monthly radio show, but now it’s time to automate that little bugger so y’all can get it directly to your phone, internet radio, tablet, desktop computer etc etc etc.

If you’re new to all things svelte, my radio show is full of new tunes from across the musical spectrum, from folk to techno, Mozart to Muhly, pop to po-faced pretension. I also half-arsedly review shows to which I have been, records that I have liked, art that’s delighted or disappointed and sometimes a bit of politics.

To subscribe click here or put into your favourite podcatching application. If you’re on iTunes and those links aren’t working, try this one.

At first I’ll simply be podcasting my full Purple Radio show (2 hours every month), but I hope to move to an hour a fortnight to make it a bit more manageable. Each episode will come with a link to the blog and a fulltracklisting so you can go and get your mits on the glorious tunes and support the artists making the stuff you like.

For the time being I’ll have a maximum of three shows available, though the full archive will continue to be available via this here blog.

Please get in contact with any suggestions or to let me know about any problems, this is step into new territory pour moi.

Oh, and if you’ve got pointers to records or musicians you think I’d like, or want to send me your music directly, please please PLEASE do.

You’ll find a little contact box here or you can always pop over to Facebook or drop me at tweet @thesvelteone

the svelte selection – big birthday special

, , , , , , , , , , ,

OMG I’m old! Which means BIG CELEBRATION TIME.

This month’s show is a bit different to the usual svelte selection. Firstly, it’s all party tunes, tunes you could play at a party. Well, that I could play at my party. Secondly, they’re random. I just hit ‘Shuffle’ and played what came up. More usually, however, all tunes are accompanied by little stories about why I love them. It’s kinda sweet and hugely self-indulgent, but it’s my birthday so COPE.

I really recommend getting the whole show from here, but if you just want tunes, go to the Spotify Playlist here

the svelte favourites of 2013

The attic in the ConcertgebouwHello everyone, thanks for popping along to see what I liked in 2013.

As repeated during this month’s 2013 special, I didn’t fall head over heels in love with any records this year, but I liked a whole lot. And a lot more electronic stuff than I have in a while.

But before I get to the music, here are a selection of my the specialest moments of 2013:

  • Spending my birthday swimming under an electric storm in Wagga Wagga at midnight
  • The start of Phasers – a 90s night done our way
  • Spending a wonderful long weekend in Edinburgh with a close, but physically distant friend and finally going underground
  • Hearing stories from pianist Alfred Brendel
  • Finally seeing the incredible film Dead Man’s Shoes (with a live score) at the Southbank Centre.
  • Returning to Glastonbury Festival as a punter for the first time in 5 years. It’s been fun working on it, but it was ace to just relax at the Best Festival In The World.
  • An extended trip to the Manchester International Festival – art, dancing and glorious friends
  • DJing at the Ada Lovelace Day event – Finding Ada. So many awesome women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths honoured by me playing a bunch of excellent tunes by excellent femmes
  • Seeing Low three times – including once in the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral
  • Every moment spent listening to The Bugle – the finest stream of Class A b*ullshit, cricket chat and political satire EVER to have graced the audio landscape
  • A farewell party with a difference…
  • Hot Chip doing Over and Over followed by Look At Where We Are in concert at my old stomping ground, the Enmore Theatre in Sydney
  • Six babies in three weeks amongst my good friends. Amazing.
  • Meeting the awesome comic Josie Long and not making a complete fool of myself
  • Discovering the Brunel Museum
  • Introducing a friend to Hawksmoor – steak deliciousness a-go-go
  • A long weekend of trains (steam, finicular and standard) during which, dear reader, I fell in love :D

And now to the tunes. There is a tracklisting below and you can download the show from here, or get what you can via Spotify over here.
